BBC World Service Job: Broadcast Assistant (Planning – Diary and Events)

Location: Lagos

Job Description:

  • To provide operational support for the planning and production teams, helping to diarise newsworthy events and keeping a record of who is covering them and for which outlets.
  • To play a key role in developing News’ diary system, establishing effective methods of communicating planning information to the Africa department and other parts of the BBC.
  • To update News’ contacts lists, following up missing information and ensuring that all details are accurately recorded by producers and team members.
  • To prepare briefs for production teams on guests and/or subject matters. On occasion, to preinterview guests and to make accurate notes on these conversations.
  • To book guests and make transport and technical arrangements to ensure that contributors get on air.
  • To organise and attend planning meetings and to record decisions, prepare and circulate documentation and co-ordinate tasks with different departments.
  • To make travel arrangements and book accommodation as requested.
  • To carry out programme-related administrative and secretarial duties. This will include recording programme costs, preparing contracts for payments, arranging payments of fees etc.
  •  To archive audio and video items, callers’ data and programme episodes and to undertake general housekeeping duties relating to productions.
  •  To assist in the studio and online production where required and under supervision e.g. timing programmes, checking material, coordinating interviews, liaising with producers and technical staff. On occasion, and under the supervision of more senior production staff, to record material and to operate simple studio equipment.
  •  To act as a point of contact for all BBC departments, outside contributors and guests.
  • On occasion, to select, translate, edit and publish contributions to BBC output and contribute suggestions for treatment of stories in line with BBC guidelines and under supervision from Editors and Senior Broadcast Journalists.

CTA Social Media Internship Opportunity For Fresh Graduate In Netherland

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food security, resilience and inclusive economic growth in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific through innovations in sustainable agriculture. CTA operates under the framework of the Cotonou Agreement and is funded by the EU.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance and supervision of the Marketing & Communication Programme Coordinator, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Assist in updating and implementing CTA’s social media strategy;
  • Assist in social media content planning and be responsible for keeping it updated, in line with the overall online content planning;
  • Research influencers, brands and networking opportunities that are strategic for CTA communication objectives;
  • Moderate and engage with comments posted on social media keeping in line with CTA’s corporate tone and messages;
  • Engage with all incoming messages on all platforms;
  • Update CTA’s corporate social media accounts (currently Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram in English and French) and visuals;
  • Update YouTube and Vimeo; edit videos and add subtitles;
  • Support CTA staff and interns in using social media tools in relation to their activities; propose easy-to-use supporting material;
  • Keep track on performance on social media and produce monthly reports;
  • Contribute content for blogs, CTA event websites and e-newsletters when required;
  • Support the team in quality control of the event calendar.

Eligibility:

  • National of one of the ACP or EU States signatory to the Cotonou Agreement (79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States and the European Union Member States).
  • University (or similar institution of higher education) degree in digital communication, marketing or related discipline.Recent graduate, between 21 and 29 years old (maximum).
  • Experience in social media.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under pressure with focus and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent working knowledge of English (both written and oral). Knowledge of French would be an asset.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours if needed to cover key events in other time zones (e.g. Pacific Islands or Caribbean).
  • Interest in and knowledge of international development is also an asset.

Offer

  • Participation in CTA activities will give you an invaluable experience at international level.
  • Internship stipend (€ 800 per month for holder of a Bachelor’s degree, € 1,000 per month for holder of a Master’s degree).
  • Payment of travel costs when joining and leaving the Centre.
  • Medical coverage for emergency cases of sickness and accident, for the duration of the internship.

NLNG: The Literary Criticism 2018 Award for N1,000,000

Deadline: 29th March, 2018.

The Literary Criticism Award yearly prize is endowed by Nigeria LNG (NLNG) Limited to honour the author of the best work. To encourage literary criticism, the Advisory Board of the Nigeria Prize for Literature will reward one critic with the sum of N1,000,000.00

Submission Procedure

  • Since the aim is to promote Nigerian literature in the world, the prize will be open to literary critics from all over the world. Special considerations shall be given to critical essays on new writings in Nigerian Literature.
  • Contestants shall send in three critical essays published in major scholarly journals. Such journals shall have a proven track record of dedication to excellence and must have international circulation.
  • No critical essay previously submitted for this competition may be considered at a later date, even if major revisions of it have been made.
  • Mere manuscripts will not be considered. Entries not submitted by the deadline and according to stated conditions shall not be considered.
  • Only entries published in the year of the competition or within three years before then shall be considered.
  • No member of the Advisory Board or Panel of Judges can enter their essay(s) for the literary criticism award in the year they are serving.

Announcement and Public Presentation of Winners

  • The Winners will normally be announced in October and will be presented to the public on a later date.
