Young Feminist Media Fellowship For Storytellers!

Are you a feminist storyteller? Do you believe in the power of stories reaching millions? Are you a budding writer, artist or videographer? Then this fellowship opportunity is just the right thing for you!

FRIDA | The Young Feminist Fund, in Partnership with The WMC FBOMB, invites Applications from young and  budding storytellers to apply to its pilot project Young Feminist Media Fellowship

The fellowship is an opportunity to gain insight into global feminist issues, receive guidance and feedback from experienced feminist journalists and an opportunity for the writers to have their stories published in a publication that has a worldwide readership.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for this fellowship if you meet the following criteria:

  • You are a young feminist (between the age of 18 and 30) with proven interest or activism in gender-based issues in the local, national or in international contexts
  • You are a budding writer, publisher, visual artist or videographer.
  • You will have some proven experience and have some sample pieces of your previous work to demonstrate it.
  • You may be based anywhere in the world, but should be from a Global South country (i.e. not Western Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand) and willing to travel in the pursuit of the story. Previous experience in journalism, writing, blogging, sketching, designing is welcome, but not compulsory.
  • You are proficient in the English language as the writing/designing will be done in English only.

Benefits

The fellow is expected to work part-time and will be paid a stipend of USD 500 USD for the three-month duration of the fellowship. As a fellow, you will be expected to decide how you’d like to utilize the stipend money in pursuit of your story.

Global Campus Visual Contest for photographers and videomakers

The visual contest will be open from 1st March and will accept submissions through 4th May 2018The Global Campus Visual Contest originates from the belief that photography and videos are powerful tools that can raise awareness and push for social change. It is also aimed to create a network of artists, intellectuals, and professionals interested in strengthening the protection of human rights and the promotion of democracy and peace.

“Diversity and Inclusion”.

The Jury

An international jury comprised of renowned international photographers such as Nick Dazinger, Maja Nydal Eriksen, and experts in media and social campaigns such as Una Bejtovic and from academia such as Rod Stoneman, Emeritus Professor at the National University of Galway, Ireland, will select the best photos and videos.

The Selection

The best pictures and short videos could receive special mentions by the partners of the contest and will be presented at the events of the Regional Masters of the Global Campus in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Caucasus, Latin America and the Caribbean, Middle East and North Africa, South East Europe.

This initiative is funded by the European Union and receives the patronage of the United Nations Regional Information centre for Western Europe (UNRIC).

UNESCO U40 Empowered for women entrepreneurs in the digital creative industries

Deadline: 16th April 2018

U40 Empowered is a UNESCO initiative started in 2018 with the support of Sabrina Ho. This initiative expands the actions of the International Fund for Cultural Diversity by supporting projects from national and international NGOs that promote young female cultural entrepreneurs working in the digital creative industries. It is designed to increase opportunities for women under 40 to access funding, infrastructure, equipment and co-production opportunities in the digital creative industries.

Focus

U40 Empowered will finance projects that:

  • Develop and/or implement strategies that invest in women as entrepreneurs working in the digital creative industries;
  • Create networks and opportunities to innovate and collaborate with women under 40 working in the digital creative industries;
  • Organise female-led creative mentorship programmes for women under 40 in partnership with digital creative hubs, incubators, and clusters;
  • Give visibility to the work and innovations of women entrepreneurs under 40 working in the digital creative industries;
  • Strengthen the digital skills of women under 40 working in the creative industry;
  • Collect and analyse sex-disaggregated data with a view to better understand the underlying causes of gender inequality in the digital creative industries with a view to informing policymaking

Eligibility

  • Projects must be implemented and/or benefit only eligible countries (developing
    countries Parties to the 2005 Convention).Non-governmental organizations that, according to their national regulations, are non-governmental and non-profit and that meet the definition of civil society in the Operational Guidelines.
  • International non-governmental organizations (INGOs) registered in countries Parties to the 2005 Convention: Applications from INGOs must be implemented in two or more eligible countries and demonstrate that the proposed project has an impact at the sub-regional, regional or inter-regional level.

Offer

  • The project implementation period shall be between 12 and 24 months, with the projects beginning in October 2018
  • The maximum amount that can be requested is 100,000 USD.
  • Projects that are approved for funding will receive their allocations in severalinstallments. Beneficiaries normally receive 50% of the total amount approved at the beginning of the project, another 30% mid-way through the project and the remaining 20% once all activities have been completed and the final reports are submitted.
  • Expenditures for project-related overhead costs are limited to a maximum of 30% of the total project budget.

  • Download, save to your computer and complete the Project Framework (including the project objectives, budget, outputs/deliverables and list of team members). The Project Framework should be opened and completed in Microsoft Excel or similar applications.
  • Gather digital copies of all Complementary Documents that are required for your application.

All the project proposals must be submitted through the online Application Form.

  • Create your account at https://en.unesco.org/creativity/applicant/register.
  • Log in at https://en.unesco.org/creativity/user/login  and complete all the fields in the online Application Form. During this process, you can save your application and come back later, using your login and password.
  • Upload the Project Framework and Complementary Documents in the dedicated fields. Before finalizing your application, ensure that all fields have been completed and accept the Terms and Conditions

Kaduna State Government Kashim Ibrahim Fellowship Programme for Nigerians

Kaduna State Government is set to introduce its inaugural class of the KashimIbrahim Fellows Programme commencing in June 2018

The one-year programme aims to create a network of high potential young Nigerians who are expected to rise to top leadership positions in the public sector and other spheres of activity over the next decade.The overall mission of the non-partisan programme, as envisioned by His Excellency, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, is in his words, “to raise the next generation of leaders who will most likely be absorbed into the Nigerian public sector having had a first-hand experience of its workings and challenges”.

The programme will admit sixteen (16) Fellows representing diverse ethnic, religious, and gender backgrounds, with varied educational, economic, and geographic experiences; working from all angles and with different perspectives to strengthen their communities and civic life.

Focus

Work Placement

Fellows will spend a year as full-time, paid assistants to senior Government House Staff, Cabinet members and other top-ranking government officials in State Departments and Agencies.

Education Programme

Fellows are expected to fully undertake the Education Programme which would include speaker series, domestic policy trips, an international policy trip and Aspen Institute style quarterly seminars

Community Service

Fellows will be expected to pursue projects to assist the urban poor with solid waste management and recycling system, volunteer teaching, mentoring secondary school students, assisting Nigerian Legion members, or participating in the clean-up of local schools.

Fellowship

Alumni will convene at yearly meetings in Kaduna hosted by the Governor, to eagerly welcome new Fellows into what we hope would be one of the most prestigious networks of professionals and leaders in the state and our nation.

Offer

  • A salary and benefits equivalent to that of Special Assistant to the Governor from the Ministry, Department or Agency for which Fellows work.
  • Accommodation in a nicely furnished one-bedroom apartment for the duration of the programme, and food

  • Proven record of integrity and exemplary achievement.
  • Commitment to engaging in crucial issues and to making a difference at the national or international level.
  • A promise of a future career of leadership and notable impact.
  • Special capacity for critical, creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking.
  • Commitment to a rigorous programme of activities, to full-time residence in Kaduna for the entire duration of the programme.
  • Fellowships are available for individuals who are working to solve important public problems in creative and powerful ways.
  • Proficiency in English: Fellows must be fluent in spoken and written English as all programmes will be conducted in English.
  • Applicants must be Nigerian citizens between 25 to 35 years of age.
  • Applicants must be graduates of a recognised university and must have completed the mandatory national youth service.

African Development Bank writing competition for a fully funded trip to Korea

As an African organization serving Africans, the African Development Bank’s dream is to build today a better future for Africa tomorrow.

Ahead of the Annual Meetings, that will be held on the theme “Accelerating Africa’s Industrialization”, in Busan, Korea, in May 2018, the bank have launched a writing competition for young Africans to unlock creativity on #Africaofmydream

Focus

To particpate, all you have to do is write an article (no longer than 1,000 words) on the Africa of your dreams, based on any of the following sub-themes.

  • Must be 20 years of age, and legally allowed to travel internationally.
  • Must hold a valid passport, or be able to obtain one prior to attending the Annual Meetings.
  • Must be a citizen of one of the 54 African countries.
  • Must not be older than 29 years old as of May 31, 2018 to enter the Contest;
  • Entries must be submitted in English or French (the African Development Bank’s official languages).
  • Young Media Practitioners: Must submit an unpublished piece no longer than 1,000 words, related to the contest’s theme.
  • Young Contestants: Must submit an essay, article or creative writing piece, no longer than 1,000 words, related to the contest’s theme.

In addition to their submitted pieces, participants will be required to submit a proof of identity – passport, birth certificate or national id card.

Andrew Wainwright Reform Trust

The objectives of the Trust are framed in general terms to work for a just and democratic society and to redress political and social injustices.

The Trust normally gives grants only to groups or organisations, but in exceptional cases, it may consider an application from an individual with proven experience or skill in their chosen field or it may make a personal award to an individual in support of outstanding commitment and effectiveness relevant to the Trust’s interests.

Before you apply

  • check that your general aims and what you specifically propose to do meet the Trust’s funding criteria outlined here;
  • consider whether the amount you are requesting falls within the normal size of grants made by the Trust outlined here
  • check that you can satisfy the Trust’s deadlines: the directors meet three times a year – in March, July and November – and applications must be submitted by 14 January, 14 May or 14 September respectively.
  • It is a condition of all grants given that the Trust receives a report back about how the grant was spent immediately after the grant is spent or at the end of the grant year, whichever is sooner.

The application process

There is no standard application form and applicants are asked to submit:

  • a completed registration form, which can be downloaded here
  • up to four A4 pages setting out your proposal;
  • a full budget for the project;
  • your most recent audited annual accounts or an up-to-date statement of income & expenditure (if only recently formed);

In the exceptional case of an application from an individual with proven experience or skill in their chosen field the application must be accompanied by your CV with details of your current employment, relevant skills and experience and names of two referees.
